Sometimes the best sessions come from plans that don’t go exactly as expected.

This family session was originally supposed to take place somewhere else, but after a stormy day brought an unfortunate change of plans, we found ourselves at The League House instead. And honestly? I think the evening worked out beautifully.

After a day of unpredictable weather, the skies finally cleared, giving us the most gorgeous sunny evening. The light was warm, the air was calm, and everything felt like it had settled into place just in time for this sweet family.

A Family Full of Love—and a Little Bit of Fun

One of my favorite things about photographing families is seeing how they interact when they’re simply being themselves.

This family has such a close-knit connection. There was so much genuine love between them, but there was also plenty of personality and playfulness. We had those silly moments where everyone could let loose, mixed in with the quieter moments where you could really see just how much they mean to one another.

That balance made this session feel incredibly authentic.

There were smiles, laughter, playful moments, and plenty of those more serious portraits that feel timeless. The kind of photographs that make you stop and think, This is my family. This is us.

When the Unexpected Turns Into Something Beautiful

As photographers, we can plan locations, outfits, poses, and timelines—but we can’t control the weather.

Sometimes a storm changes the plan.

Sometimes you have to make a last-minute location change.

And sometimes, those unexpected changes lead you somewhere that ends up being exactly what you needed.

The League House gave us a beautiful setting for this family to simply spend time together and enjoy their evening. Once the sun came back out, the whole atmosphere felt relaxed and warm—perfect for capturing both the joyful and heartfelt sides of their family.

Family photographs aren't really about getting everyone to look at the camera and smile perfectly.
