A Windy Evening at The McDonald Ranch
Some sessions just feel extra meaningful from the very beginning, and this one definitely did. Getting to photograph my cousin and her sweet little family out at The McDonald Ranch was such a special experience — one of those evenings that perfectly captures what real family memories look like.
The Texas Panhandle definitely showed off for us that night. The wind was nonstop, the storm clouds kept rolling closer, and the sky looked more dramatic by the minute. Honestly, it felt like one of those evenings where you never quite know what’s going to happen next… but somehow that made everything even more beautiful.
This family is the kind that keeps each other laughing no matter what. Positive, nurturing, respectful, loving… and just the right amount of chaotic. The best kind of family, honestly. The kind where everyone talks over each other, someone is always joking, and there’s never a dull moment — but underneath all of it is so much genuine love.
And Blaire absolutely stole the show.
From her tiny pink boots to her fearless personality, she made every single moment fun. Whether she was posing like a little model, pointing out the longhorns, or soaking up all the attention from Mom and Dad, she brought so much life to this session. You could tell how deeply loved she is in every interaction.
One of my favorite parts of the evening was watching this family simply be together. The hugs, the teasing, the hand holding, the kisses on Blaire’s cheeks — none of it felt forced. It was real, comfortable, and full of connection. Those are always the moments I hope to capture most.
The storm clouds in the background added so much depth and emotion to these images. Between the golden grass, the western outfits, the dramatic sky, and the wind catching every little movement, this session felt beautifully raw and authentic to who they are.
Sessions like this remind me why I love photography so much. It’s not about perfect poses or perfect weather. It’s about preserving people exactly as they are in this season of life — the love, the laughter, the chaos, and all the little in-between moments that matter most.
I’m so grateful I got to capture these memories for my family, especially one that means so much to me. This session at The McDonald Ranch is one I won’t forget anytime soon. 🤍
