There’s something about a spring evening in Palo Duro Canyon that feels alive—the golden light stretching across the hills, the wind dancing through the grass, and families leaning into each other a little closer as the breeze picks up. This particular Saturday in April gave us all of that and more.

I met up with Alli, Aaron, and their sweet little crew for a sunset session that felt equal parts joyful and real. The wind had its own plans that evening, gently tugging at hair and clothing, adding that perfectly unposed, candid movement that brings photos to life. Instead of fighting it, we embraced it—and it couldn’t have suited this family more.

Maylie absolutely stole the show with her constant smiles and contagious giggles. She was bright-eyed and happy the entire session, soaking in every moment and flashing the sweetest expressions. Whether she was snuggled up in her mama’s arms or looking around with curiosity, she brought such a lightness to the evening.

Koen, on the other hand, had a very important mission: rocks. The canyon floor offered endless little treasures, and he was determined to inspect every single one. It was so fun watching his personality shine through—completely in his own world, content and curious. Those are the moments that make sessions feel so genuine, capturing kids exactly as they are in this season of life.

And in the middle of it all were Alli and Aaron—effortless, connected, and so clearly in love. Whether it was the way Aaron reached for Alli or the way she leaned into him while holding Maylie, their story showed up in the quiet, in-between moments just as much as in the posed ones. It’s always an honor to capture that kind of connection—the kind that doesn’t need direction, just space to be.

Windy, a little wild, and full of personality, this session was a perfect reflection of a beautiful family right where they are. And, honestly, those are always my favorite kinds of stories to tell.
